How to brine your turkey

Ingredients for brining a turkey.Brining a turkey is a tried-and-true method for achieving a moist, flavorful bird that stands out on any holiday table. By soaking the turkey in a seasoned saltwater solution, you’re not only enhancing its taste but also ensuring it stays juicy and tender throughout cooking. Here are some of the key benefits to brining your turkey that will make your feast even more delicious.

Juicier Meat: The salt in the brine helps the turkey retain more moisture during cooking, leading to a juicier final product.

Enhanced Flavor: Brining infuses the turkey with flavors from the salt and any added seasonings, making each bite more flavorful.

Tenderizes the Meat: The salt breaks down muscle proteins, resulting in a more tender texture, especially for leaner cuts like the breast.

Brining directions 

    1. Place the plastic bag into a large container. Pour in the warm water then add the base. Wisk the base until it dissolves. Add the brown sugar and salt. 
    2. Cut the orange in ½ and add the herbs and peppercorns into the sock. Tie the sock closed at the top. Squeeze the orange slices as you place the stuffed sock into the bottom of the bag.
    3. Place the turkey into the bag then top with ice and cold water. Stir everything together and seal the bag shut. Close the container and put into a fridge for 24 hours.
    4. When the brining is complete you can remove the turkey from the bag in order the roast.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup turkey base
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup kosher salt
  • 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp whole black peppercorns
  • Variety of poultry herbs
  • 1 sock
  • 1 plastic bag

  • 1 pitcher warm water
  • 1 pitcher cold water
  • 1 large container (bucket) with lid
