Ingredients
Ham:
8–10 pound spiral ham (Palmer’s sells a tasty Leidy’s Spiral Ham)
Glaze:
1 cup light or dark brown sugar, packed
½ cup honey
½ cup orange juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
1. Prepare Ham: Remove the ham from the refrigerator at least 2 hours before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
2. Make Glaze: In a medium saucepan, whisk together all the glaze ingredients. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the sugar dissolves and the glaze thickens slightly.
3. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 325°F.
4. Prepare Ham for Baking: Unwrap the ham and place it in a large roasting pan, cut side down. Brush half of the glaze over the ham and wrap it tightly with foil.
5. Bake Ham: Bake for 12-15 minutes per pound or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
6. Glaze and Continue Cooking: Remove the ham from the oven and remove the foil. Brush the remaining glaze over the ham, making sure to get in between the slices. (Tip: If the glaze hardens, return to heat to loosen.) Return the ham to the oven and continue cooking for an additional 8-10 minutes.
7. Rest and Serve: Remove the ham from the oven and loosely wrap with foil. Let the ham rest for 15 minutes before carving and serving.
Notes
Room Temperature Ham: Ensure the ham is at room temperature before cooking to promote even heating.
Internal Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham reaches an internal temperature of 145°F for safe consumption.
Pairing Suggestion: Serve with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and a fresh green salad to complement the rich flavors of the ham.
